Lord of the Hearts Festivity
Date: July 15th and 23rd
This holiday is in honour of the Virgin of Guadeloupe and the "Señor de los Corazones" [Lord of Hearts]. The Lord of Hearts festivities are held from July 15 to 23, commemorating the town’s patron saint and the day when the town was sited by royalists, from April 10 to July 23 of 1812. Manuel Orozco y Berra tells the story of Trujano who, desperate from the lack of provisions and attacks on the town was forced to order nine days of prayer to the Lord of Hearts. After the nine days were over, Trujano received word that Morelos was on his way to offer help to the besieged town. The weeklong festivities include a fairground, fireworks, cockfights, beauty pageant and popular dances.
