Donají Pricess, The legend
Date: Second half of July
This legend is portrayed through a dance performance and takes place at 8 o’clock in the evening on "Lunes del Cerro", in Guelaguetza Auditorium. The choreography has three acts and 50 dancers: In the first act, Aztec Emperor Ahuitzol arrives, followed by the wedding of Cocijoeza (Zapoteco Ruler), and the birth of his daughter, Donaji. Later, we see her inevitable meeting with Nucano, who falls in love with the young Princess and abducts her. In the second act young Donaji is abducted and taken prisoner by the forces of Nucano. This provokes battle to rescue the young Princess. She is sacrificed, dying for her people. The third and final act tells the story of a shepherd who is calmly walking along the banks of the Atoyac River, where he finds a beautiful lily growing inside Princess Donaji's ear. The young Princess' face looks strangely fresh and beautiful, as though she were sleeping. Her face became the official emblem of the State of Oaxaca, and can be seen on the emblem of the Oaxaca City Hall.
